Leader: Laurel Anderson
Collaborator: Troy Alee
Project summary
I am a collaborator and organizer of initiatives to improve local food production, education and economic opportunities. I am a volunteer Food Justice Council member and Little Earth Urban Farm Growing Group leader for The Traditional Foods, Healthy Communities Initiative. I would like to make an interactive website, blog and produce weekly episodes of the project over the next 2 years to share with the public.
How will your project manifest at the next FEAST, to be held in approximately 12 weeks?
I will be able to produce the trailer and 1st episodes of the projects unfolding, develop an interactive website for the public to follow, film informational interviews with experts, begin the blog as well as plan, implement, and break ground on the urban farm.
How will you use funding towards the realization of your project?
The grant will allow me to acquire imperative equipment, especially a versatile camera with HD video recording and external storage device for my computer. I will build an interactive website and produce the project trailer, 1st episode, and will have an established blog. I will also be able to attend upcoming permaculture and leadership training conferences for aspiring young farmers.
Why is this project critical to the community?
Access to traditional, healthy, locally produced food is imperative to the future of our communities. Disparities among us are perpetuated by food deserts, lack of opportunities to grow food, and the poor quality of industrialized food. It is critical that we develop and document programs in our most under-served communities and neighborhoods for the improvement of health, food and society.
